An Analysis of its Usability
For this experiment, the group devised five tasks for the subject to complete. The primary goal is to assess the usability of Spotify's webpage; with this in mind, the tasks were created to reasonably evaluate different sections of the page. For each task, the subject will be assessed on accuracy, recall, time, and emotional response.
Read more below to discover how each task went. Click on the task bar to jump to a specific section.
Task 1 - Make an Account
Time: 15 seconds
Accuracy: Perfect
Recall: Perect
Emotional Response: The subject was happy to see that there was an option to sign up with Google or to put in your information by yourself. The button to make an account was right at the top, where the subject expected it to be.
Task 2 - Download the Desktop App
Time: 5 seconds
Accuracy: Perfect
Recall: Perect
Emotional Response: The download button was also right where the subject expected it to be, therefore the task took only a short 5 seconds. It was very easy to figure out how to download the app.
Task 3 - Find Pricing Options in Terms and Conditions
Time: 1 minute and 50 seconds
Accuracy: There were a few misclicks from the subject; it was hard to find the exact line within the Terms and Conditions without using CMD + F.
Recall: Although it took longer to complete the task, the subject remembered exactly what to do.
Emotional Response: Reading through Terms and Conditions was boring and tedious; however, this experience was not unique to Spotify's website.
Task 4 - Find Spotify's Instagram
Time: 10 seconds
Accuracy: Perfect
Recall: Perect
Emotional Response: It was very easy to complete this task because the subject knew what the Instagram logo looks like. Perhaps if he didn't have this common knowledge, then it would have taken him longer.
Task 5 - Find How to Use the Spotify API to Pull an Album
Time: 45 seconds
Accuracy: a few wrong clicks
Recall: Perect
Emotional Response: It was easier to find than the task regarding Terms and Conditions. The subject liked how the Developer section was in the bottom area of the website. He went to the support page first, then found the For Developers link.
